Full Biography

 

David Richter is an emerging Portuguese and Dutch composer and conductor currently studying Composition (Bachelor Degree) and Conducting (Minor) at the Royal Conservatoire The Hague in The Netherlands.

 

Over the past six years, the majority of David's compositions have been showcased in the auditoriums of the Conservatório de Música Calouste Gulbenkian de Braga, the institution where he first delved into the world of composition. For the past 12 years, David has also demonstrated his vocal prowess as a singer, gracing the stages of esteemed concert halls such as Casa da Música and Teatro Circo.

 

At the Royal Conservatoire The Hague, he is currently immersed in his studies under the guidance of international composers Jan van de Putte and Martijn Padding. David has further enriched his musical education by participating in workshops led by renowned composers, including Chaya Czernowin and Agata Zubel.

Between 2020 and 2023, David pursued a high school composition course under the mentorship of Professors Ana Paula Moura and Paulo Bastos. In 2023, he actively engaged in two projects involving Literature and Composition, one held at the library of the Braga Conservatory and the other at D. Pedro V College, both located in Braga.

As a conductor:

 

• Currently doing a minor in Orchestral Conducting under the tutelage of Ivan Meylemans and Alex Schillings.

• in 2024, he attended a masterclass with Arne Visser and the Valerius Student Orchestra.

• In 2023, he attended conducting classes with Pedro Almeida, and participated in two masterclasses with Rafa Aguilló Albors.

As a singer, David has left his mark on various occasions:

​

• Since March 2024, he started being a member of Endora Kamerkoor in Heemskerk with Nuno Lobo as the conductor.

​

• In 2022 and 2023, he lent his voice to weddings in collaboration with the company Ao Som do Sonho.

​

• In 2022, he took on the role of a soloist with the baroque orchestra in the Baroque Concert of Braga's Conservatory.

​

• In 2021, he shared the stage at Teatro Circo with Rodrigo Leão.

​

• In 2019, David was a soloist, accompanied by choir and piano, at the Adelina Caravana Auditorium.

​

• Also in 2019, he participated in a performance of Handel's Messiah with the choir of Casa da Música under the direction of Paul McCreesh.

​

• In 2018, he contributed to the April 25th celebrations at Teatro Circo alongside Paulo de Carvalho.

​

• His journey into singing commenced in 2012 under the tutelage of Professor Inês Sofia at the Conservatório de Música Calouste Gulbenkian de Braga.

​

Throughout his career, David has collaborated with a distinguished array of ensembles, musicians and conductors, including Ana Calheiros, Ana Rute Rei, António Novais, Daniël Salbert, Filipe Silva, Michal Nesterowicz, Nuno Lobo, Paul McCreesh, Pedro Almeida, Quatuor Bozzini, Rafa Aguilló Albors, Residentie Orkest and Sousa Duo.
